When, on the request of the police Magistrate, the Inspector visited this home she found a boy aged two who was suffering from marasmus,

After much persuasion the mother took him to the Tung Wah Hospital but would not allow him to stay as an in- patient.

At the Society's request Dr. Kirk visited the home. He found the child in a pitiable condition, undersized and covered with boils. Ile asked the mother to bring it to the French Hospital but she refused and the Inspector's persua- sion failed.

A week later the mother took the child to the Tung Wah Hospital in a moribund condition and he died within a few hours.

Under the existing laws there is no power to compel parents to obtain medical attention for sick children or to punish them if they fail to do so.

Plaint No. A.40.—When seen by the Inspector a boy aged five and his baby brother were covered with boils and the baby also had fever. The Inspector took them to hospital and the baby was found to have a high temperature and remained as an in-patient.

Both were cured and are doing finely after a die of Glaxo and emulsion.

Plaint No. 136.—When, on the report of a neighbour, the Inspector visited this case she found a boy aged five very thin and pale and suffering from suppurating ophthalmia of the right eye. The disease had spread to the left eye and complete blindness was threatened.

Dr. Kirk, a member of the Executive Committee, was consulted and arranged for the child's admission to the French Hospital where he enucleated the right eye.

The sight of the left eye has been saved and the father has written expressing his gratitude.
